The one aspect of this scene that always bugged me was the fact that the record goes from “She Smiled Sweetly” to “Ruby Tuesday.” There’s no pressing of Between The Buttons where “She Smiled Sweetly” is followed by “Ruby Tuesday.” In fact, on the American pressing of Between The Buttons, “Ruby Tuesday” comes before “She Smiled Sweetly.” At no point does anyone lift the tone arm to change songs. It’s a bit frustrating to me, given that Wes Anderson is something of a record nerd. I’m sure theere’s an aesthetic reason behind it. Might have to watch the scene with the audio commentary on. It’s still a great scene, one of my favorites in the film.
